#MarketingTipMonday No. 102

Yes, small business owner, you need to have a business card.

I was recently at a networking event. Business cards were swapping hands at the speed of a Pokemon card trade before school back in 2001. (No, you cannot have my holographic Flareon).

One person said, “Oh, I don’t have a physical business card. You can just scan my digital business card from my phone, if you want.”

No one want.

And another said, “I’m the only <insert name here> on LinkedIn. You can just find me there.” This both full of lies and puts the work on the other person. A big first-impression no-no! Remember, great marketing removes barriers and makes it easy for your audience to take the desired action.

Do not let this marginal expense keep you from building your professional network and connecting with new sales leads.

Side note: when I recently handed a prospect my business card, the woman exclaimed, “oh this is so pretty! I just love it!”

I replied, “What kind of marketer would I be if my business cards weren’t nice?” 😅

Your business card doesn’t need to rival Jackson Pollock. Designing for business is a specific kind of art. Your business cards should be easy to read, reinforce your brand, and include all your pertinent contact information.
